Skills
Skills represent a variety of abilities that you can specialize in and improve over time. Initially, and again at each level, you gain a number of skill points based on race, class, and INT modifier, that you can use to learn new skills or improve your current skills.

If you select a class skill, you get 1 rank for each skill point; if you select other classes' skills (cross-class), you get ½ rank per skill point. Class skills have a maximum rank of your level + 3 and cross-class skills have a maximum of half that number.

A skill check is made by (1d20 + skill rank + ability modifier + miscellaneous modifiers). Many skills can be used even if the character has no ranks in the skill - this is know as making an untrained skill check. The ability modifier used in the skill check is the modifier for the skill's key ability. Miscellaneous modifiers include racial bonuses, armor check penalties, etc.

Animal Empathy No CHA Allows you to charm animal once per creature.
Appraise Yes INT Accurately appraise items within 10% of actual value.
Balance Yes DEX* Successfully keep from falling when walking on dangerous surfaces.
Bluff Yes CHA Improves your chances of getting NPCs to believe you.
Concentration Yes CON Helps you complete an action despite distractions (like being hit while casting a spell).
Craft Yes INT Allows you to peform trade-specific tasks such as blacksmithing, trapmaking, etc.
Decipher Script No INT Allows you to decipher unfamiliar, archaic, or incomplete writing.
Diplomacy Yes CHA Improves NPC reactions to your suggestions or negotiations.
Disable Device No INT Allows you to disarm traps or other mechanical devices.
Disguise Yes CHA Allows you to change your appearance to others.
Escape Artist Yes DEX* Slip bonds, fit through tight spaces, or escape the grip of a monster.
Forgery Yes INT Create authentic-looking documents or detect others' forgeries.
Gather Information Yes CHA Affects the local rumors and information that NPCs offer you.
Handle Animal No CHA Allows you to train an animal companion to follow you.
Heal Yes WIS Treat minor wounds, poison, and disease.
Hide Yes DEX* Allows you to fade from sight of NPCs and other players.
Innuendo No WIS Communicate privately with other characters with this skill.
Intimidate Yes CHA Gets NPCs to back down or divulge information they are withholding. Note: 5+ ranks in Bluff gives a +2 bonus.
Intuit Direction No WIS Allows you to always know in which direction true north lies.
Jump Yes STR Successfully leap over open pits, chasms, etc.
Knowledge No INT Allows you to identify items related to a specific field (Arcana, Religion, or Nature).
Listen Yes WIS Hear approaching creatures and NPCs or eavesdrop on a conversation.
Move Silently Yes DEX* Sneak up behind enemies or slink away unnoticed.
Open Lock No DEX Pick open locked doors or chests.
Perform Yes CHA Allows you to play musical instruments. Bards gain special abilities from their music based on their rank in this skill.
Pick Pocket No DEX* Steal money or items without being noticed. Note: 5+ ranks in Bluff gives a +2 bonus.
Profession No WIS Allows you to earn money from using your Craft skills.
Read Lips No INT Understand what others are saying even in silence or when they are whispering.
Ride Yes DEX Allows you to ride mounts such as horses.
Scry Yes INT Improves your chances of spying on others with scrying spells and devices.
Search Yes INT Detect secret doors and traps. Only rogues can detect magical traps.
Sense Motive Yes WIS Allows you to detect bluffs from NPCs.
Spellcraft No INT Allows you to learn spells from scrolls and identify them as they are cast.
Spot Yes WIS Detect creatures and characters who are in hiding.
Swim Yes STR* Allows you to swim, dive, and navigate underwater.
Tumble No DEX* Take less damage from falls.
Use Magic Device No CHA Activate scrolls and wands as if you had spell abilities.
Use Rope Yes DEX Allows you to securely tie things with rope including binding prisoners.
Wilderness Lore Yes WIS Allows you to avoid natural hazards and identify items in the wilderness.
*Indicates that an Armor Check penalty applies when wearing armor heavier than leather.
